TRAVEL NOTES: Spindles in Spain
I looked for turnings in Spain. The only lead I got was for a village 60 km away where they made furniture mostly in small shops one of which was a turner's. I had no car or time so I was unable to visit it.
I saw spindle turning on furniture and on Alter screens in churches. Of one such, a decorative display in a museum, I took a few pictures. There were also a few turned bowls used to display jewelry. They were ok for the purpose, but not much as turned bowels. In another museum there was as bowl in a diorama to demonstrate a old peasant house. Lots of pottery. Our trip was mostly in cities, there is probably more turning in the countryside: cooking utensils and toys such as are seen in Mexico
.

Robert Pastel demonstrating at a woodshow near Syracuse. Six members were in attendance in addition to the scheduled two demonstrators. This particular bowl was finished later as Robert didn't have the necessary tools with him.
