This oval bowl is a piece of cherry left by loggers where I deer hunt down in the Catskills. It was found by my son. It is a piece sliced from the trunk of a tree that was the growth over a broken branch. The size is about 3.5 wide and 7" long. Bark was left on the outside and small bowl turned in the center. It took a few hours as the flying ends were a real hazard. |

This is another larger bowl that was very rotten in the center and so I turned with one end cut off and made into a foot.

This bowl was made from a glue up of 12 pieces of 1/2" thick Zebra wood. Two pieces side by side and then six layers with each layer rotated 30 degrees. then it was band sawed into a circle and turned normally. Most of the time went into the glueup as the zebra wood turned easily and the 30 rotation spread the end grain around the bowl. It is about 5" wide and 3" high. It was made for the wife of the man that gave me a pile of 1/2" and 1/4" thick zebra wood.
