The Onondaga District Finance Committee
works on a number of fundraising activities. They are as follows; Friends
of Scouting, Popcorn sales, Boypower
Dinner, Online Auction, and our
new mailing campaign to Eagle
Scouts living in our District. In addition to these key campaigns,
we attempt to raise money via other gifts of money and services that occasionally
get donated to the Scouting program. Examples of these "in kind gifts"
could be equipment or supplies as well as money that gets donated for one time
specific projects. This past year Leo Brizzi added some phone-a-thons as well
as some extra fund raisers which boosted our FOPS totals. We also attempted
a "pig roast" which had to be canceled. This year we will try another
special event so stay tuned.
Friends of Scouting:
We will soon have our FOS goal for this Scouting year. We are working on the
possibility of a District version of the FOS presentation. We have heard from
a number of you that the presentation needs to be brief so that it does not
conflict with your Pack / Troop meeting. We are also adding a mailing to each
unit approximately one month prior to the actual FOS presentation. With this
mailing, we will be asking you to help by editing our list for your unit. We
will then print a better set of cards without all of the duplication and "old
data" that has been a problem in prior years. PLEASE HELP US! Get your
presentation on the schedule as early as possible. Also, please schedule it
at a main event such as a Blue and Gold or a Court of Honor. A good turn out
equals a good result. The key is to get on the schedule as soon as possible.
This gives us time to follow up and also, to collect the funds in a timely way.
Popcorn Sales:
The campaign is under way, but it is not too late to get involved. Our goal is $160,000 and the units will make $53,000. If we hit this number, then our Units will be sharing in approximately $50,000 of profits while Council will be adding to the budget with their share of the revenue. Any unit who needs additional area to work can call Don Laplante and ask for street maps. He has plenty to give out. Did you know that we are reaching only 10% of our potential areas with popcorn? We have a great opportunity to increase sales and Unit profits.
Boypower Dinner:
The date will be Wednesday, 5/7/2008. More info will be coming, however, SAVE
THE DATE! Bob Congel will be the Honoree and the main speaker will be announced
soon.
We need all of our Packs and troops to participate in these campaigns. The Council budget and therefore, our program depends on the revenue that comes from each of these fundraisers. Please make certain that your unit is signed up.
With each of these all-important activities we are given annual goals. Each
of the remaining Districts has the same structure, though their goals will vary
with the District size and giving history. As you can imagine, this is a critically
important area for the success of the Council. We can always use volunteers
to assist with this work. For example, we hold a number of phone-a-thons each
year to call on the people who we miss with our campaign and through this effort
we attempt to "touch" all of our Scouting supporters. If you can spare
a little time and you think that your skills would allow you to ask our Scouting
families to help, then this committee needs you.
