A New Century and a New Reign Begins!

Scott Bauer, W2LC, Becomes
WNY Section Manager,
January 1, 2000!

Scott Bauer became Section Manager of Western New York on January 1, 2000, completing the term of Bill Thompson, W2MTA, who, after 20 years is retiring from the office.

Scott moved to his present location a little over two years ago. Before that, in Rochester, he'd been restricted to a single ground mounted vertical, but he'd never gone inactive.

Achieving the office of Section Manager was something Scott has always wanted to do. In fact, he actually ran against Bill Thompson when Bill first ran for Section Manager twenty years ago. Next year will be the second time he'll run for the office.

Scott's first order of business upon taking up the Section Managership will be to review and fill in any gaps that still exist in the volunteer offices of the Section ("unless Bill beats me to it," Scott says)! He looks forward to getting to know the entire volunteer corps in the next several months.

"I feel that this is my time to help Amateur Radio and the ARRL, and keep Amateur Radio going in the right direction. I believe that Amateur Radio and all of us Hams have a lot to look forward to. We can and need to do better, but I think Amateur Radio is going to do just fine."

• Grew up in East Aurora NY, and graduated from EAHS.
• Graduated from the State University of NY at Buffalo (aka UB),
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
• Work for Sensis Corp. in DeWitt, as a Radio Frequency (RF) & Analog Design Engineer.
• Originally licensed in 1969 as WN2LCC, and as WA2LCC until 4 years ago.
• ARRL VE, but currently not an active VE.
• Past president & vice-president of the East Aurora Radio Club (EARC).
• Past member of the Radio Association of WNY (RAWNY).
• Past president & secretary of the Buffalo Area DX Club.
• Past member of the Rochester Amateur Radio Association (RARA).
• Past president, sect./treas. and board member of the Rochester DX Assoc. (RDXA-W2RDX).
• Member of the Rochester DX Association and Salt City DX Association.
• ASM - 6 county area in CNY including Onondaga county and 5 others for most of the past 2 years. Now acting ASM for the time being.
• Previously held an ORS appointment.
• Past net manager and net control for the novice Eastern Area Slow Net, way back in my novice and early general days.
• Past substitute liaison and NYS net control back in the W2RUF era.
• Accomplished homebrewer.
• Operate mostly CW on all bands 160 thru 10m, and even 2m CW, and use SSB and FM as well.
