Book Illustrations
Many popular American and European books about Islam from the
18th, 19th and early 20th centuries included lithographs and line drawings
depicting Mohammed. Here is a small sampling:
Frontispiece from The Life of Mahomet, published 1719.
This illustration is taken from La vie de Mahomet, by M.
Prideaux, published in 1699. It shows Mohammed holding a sword and a crescent
while trampling on a globe, a cross, and the Ten Commandments.
