Zoo Keepers Wanted !

Congratulations!!!  You and your friends have been selected to help develop a new zoo in Fulton, NY.  As the Zoo Keepers, you will also be the tour guides for the new zoo.  Have fun and good luck!

Tasks:  Work in cooperative groups of 5

  1. Name your zoo!
  2. Surf the web for information about your specific animals and fill in an animal report form.
  3. Write at least two animal reports.  Keep it short and include interesting and unusual facts about your animals.
  4. Make “Fun Fact” posters about your animals.
  5. As a group, create a map of your zoo.  Include a map key.
  6. Give the class a virtual tour of your zoo.  Everyone in your group must have a part.

Process:


1. Work in groups of 5. Brainstorm names for your zoo. Decide on one.

2. Assign each team member a specific animal group. (mammals, reptiles, amphibian, insects, birds, or fish)  Each member will choose a different group. Surf the information resources and choose at least two animals from your specific group to live in your zoo.  Fill out animal report forms.  Be sure to look for cool and unusual facts too!

3. Use that information to write a factual report on the animals you’ve selected.  Keep it short and include interesting details.

4. Create a “Fun Facts” poster for each animal, using interesting an unusual facts that you found on the web about your animals.   Make it colorful and easy to read.

5. As a group create a map of your zoo.  Include a map key.  Make it colorful and include lots of details. 

6. Your group will then practice and present a virtual tour of your zoo.  Everyone must have a part.  Make it fun.  Feel free to use music, costumes, puppets or other props. Use your imaginations.

   

Learning Advice 

Some Suggestions:

  1. Teams will need to share work, and reach decisions fairly.
  2. Do not rush through the questioning and research parts of the task.
  3. Have fun, and your creativity will surely show!

 

Conclusion:
After you have completed this WebQuest you will have learned a lot about animals and their classifications. In addition, you used your map skills and social skills to work cooperatively to create a map of your zoo and give a virtual tour presentation.  I hope you’ve had fun doing this WebQuest and have learned a few things along the way.
