Dear Parents,

      The summer is over and your child, a very special person, is beginning second grade in room 104, with me, Mrs. Merritt.

I look forward to working with your child and you during what I hope will be an enjoyable, growing year for your child.  If at any time you have problems or concerns, please let me know.  I am here to help your child and you in any way possible.

Each day, time is set aside for silent reading.  Please encourage your child to bring in interesting books or magazines.  We will also have some free time at the end of each day.  If the weather does not cooperate, board games, puzzles, cards, etc. may be brought in.

Since my letter in June, I have added a few supplies that your child will need to begin second grade.  Here is the complete list.

1. pencils, erasers, crayons ( 16 or 24)
2. small pencil box or zip bag to hold crayons and pencils
3. scissors
4. tablet paper - avoid large binders
5. Elmer's glue (white)
6. old shirt to be used as a painting smock
7. sneakers for gym class on Tuesdays and Fridays
8. $4.50 for year's subscription to Weekly Reader, a  current events magazine
9. two black and white composition books
10. a picture of your child enjoying summer vacation
