:: About this Website...

I have been a fan of the CBS Radio Mystery Theater and a collector of the show since the early 80's. I have created this website for the dedicated fans of radio dramas. Spend some time listening to one of the greatest radio mystery shows of all time...The CBS Radio Mystery Theater! I remember when I was a kid listening to the shows in my bed at night. They were broadcast each night on WHEN radio in Syracuse, New York. As a teenager, I remember listening to the show for the very first time back in 1975. My dad actually introduced me to the show. He was a fan of radio dramas like the Green Hornet and Fibber McGee. It was very exciting to hear the creaking door of the Mystery Theater each night along with the scary music playing and the downright spooky voice of E. G. Marshall narrating the show, especially when I hid in my bed under the covers with the lights out! I looked forward every night to the next chilling episode! This was a unique experience for me and since I was a part of the "TV generation" I often wonder today how these shows could have competed with all the live action shows on television at the time. I really believe that what made the shows so special to me was that they had the ability to help me create mental images of the scenes and the characters in my mind. The stories were wonderful, exciting and very well written. The acting was class A - superb! It was like watching a TV in my mind! Late in the series I tried with mixed results to record as many of the shows as possible when I got my first stereo cassette recorder in 1980. That was really the beginning of my collecting and my fascination with preserving the show for others to enjoy for many years to come!

:: Collecting Shows

I began recording shows in the fall of 1979. and was able to record about 25 shows as they originally aired. The commercials were edited out so I could fit 2 shows on a 90 minute cassette. I wish I had included all the original news breaks and commercials. I've found that they are just as entertaining to listen to as the shows. Since then I have collected hundreds of the 1,400+ shows in MP3 format. The sound quality varies widely, but most are in fairly good shape. If you are interested in trading, please contact me. Check out the "Playlists and Shows" section. If you want to trade shows with me, I will send you a reply email containing information on what you need to do! Collecting the CBS Radio Mystery Theater is only a hobby for me. I don't profit from the shows in any way. I'm very sorry, but my collection is not for sale. Thank you for your understanding!
