KLONDIKE DERBY 2008 Camp Woodland was the site of the 2008 Ontario District Klondike Derby, on January 25-27, 2008. This years' format differed from previous years in that there was be no host troop. Instead, each unit was requested to host a station along the Klondike trail. The balmy January thaw finally gave way to Arctic temperatures and lake snow, so units were greeted with ideal seasonal conditions. Several of the district's hardier units braved the weather in tents, while others used the camp cabins. A great time was had by all, including a visiting Girl Scout unit. Activities included knot tying, first aid, snow ball slingshot, canoe racing, snow sculptures, among others. Scouts were also given the opportunity to tour the wonderful William Hillcourt Scout Museum….a tribute to the history of Scouting and a "labor of love" for many of our council Scouters and donors. Check out the Klondike photos in the Photo Gallery.
