The original movie, Shaft, was released in 1971 and is probably known as the best representative of the genre of movies we call blackspoitation. Shaft's Big Score was the follow up to Shaft and release in 1972. The third and final movie released was Shaft in Africa in 1973. There are rumors going around the web that there was a fourth movie released in 1976, and it was only available on tape, and only in German. This movie is supposed to be called Shaft in Dutchland, but I've never seen any real evidence that this movie was actually released. There is also many strong rumors going around that say John Singleton is going to remake Shaft and Samual L. Jackson would play as Shaft. Once again there is no evidence that this is going to happen, but I believe that it will in the next year or two. There was also another movie released in the mid seventies called Diamond Shaft, which starred the man, Richard Roundtree. Unfortunately it has nothing to do with Shaft except of the name and the fact that Richard Roundtree starred in it. The plot also has many common things with Ernest Tiddyman's (author of the Shaft books) book, Shaft among the Jews, but because Shaft isn't in this movie it can't really be classified as a Shaft movie. Now, many of you probably remember or have heared of a Shaft television series. Well, there was one starring Richard Roundtree, but it was hardly Shaft. The character had to lighten up alot and be more "appropriate" for the television audience. This really ruined much that made Shaft the man, and this show never caught on very well.
