PHILOSOPHY
of the Syracuse Hebrew Day School

As a community day school, the Syracuse Hebrew Day School represents k'lal yisrael, the unity of the Jewish people, amid the diversity of Jewish life. The school develops within its students an appreciation of their rich dual heritage as Jews and Americans.

The Day School offers Jewish children an integrated program of intensive Jewish and general studies from Kindergarten through 6th grade. The school is committed to excellence in both its secular and Judaic programs. We nurture the uniqueness and individuality of each child and thereby to helpall children reach their full potential. In our General studies program, we present more than the mandated New York State curriculum, as well as enrich the school day with music, art, and physical education. Our Judaic program is what sets us apart from other schools in the area, both public and private. We teach our students the joy of Jewish life, by giving them the tools and skills they need to participate fully in the synagogue, to speak Hebrew fluently and to know our culture and history. We provide a setting that encourages the practice of Jewish traditions, and by developing a sensitivity to and understanding of the variety of Jewish practices.
