Grading:
Grades will be calculated using
points, that is your average is the total number of points you have
earned divided by the total number of points.
The Exams Category includes both Tests and Quizzes, Class Work is
done during class and handed in at the end of class. It is not to be
taken home. Theses are graded. Homework is given daily and will
include reading and note taking as we work our way through the book.
The purpose of homework is to practice what you have learned in
class, determine if you understood what was taught and to learn to
use your text book as a resource. One point will be deducted from
your class preparation grade if the homework is not completed.
Tests will be
based upon your quizzes, class notes, daily reading and any class
work.
Missing Graded work:
You are
responsible for knowing what work you will be missing and making up
the work and arranging time with me to get help if it is needed.
Missing
Class
-
Planned Absences:
When you know you will be missing class for more then one day, for any reason, you must
let me know at least three days ahead of time so we can come up
with a time line for the make up work, otherwise it is due
the day you return. Everything will be found on the web
site.
-
Missing class because
of coming later to school or leaving early: If you are in school it is your
obligation to get the work and to turn in the assignment for
that class on time. You are not excused from knowing the materail
or doing the work
Class
Preparation:
To
be prepared for you class means you are to have spent at least 20
minutes studying and taking additional notes from your textbook and
doing the homework. Plan on about 40 minutes each day for studying
and completing assignments.
Class preparation points will be
assigned each Marking period based upon the number of days in the
Marking Period. That is each student will start out with the same
number of points . Your challenge is to keep those points and not to
loose any points because you have not come prepared to class. Coming
prepared means you are in class on time, have your homework and all
class materials and do not at any time disturb the learning teaching
process, by talking etc.
It
is your obligation to know what you are missing. Work will not
be accepted more then 1 class late and 1 point will be deducted for
that late work. If you are absent due to illness then other
arrangements will be made and we will determine the time line for you
to make up the work.
IF
YOU MISS A TEST a QUIZ or Class Work
If
you miss a test or quiz because you are absent the day it is given,
expect to take it the next day, preferably before school. Otherwise
you will take the test, quiz, class work during class. It is expected that you do all class work and
the homework that was assigned. Since Class work is graded it is to be done with me,
you will not be given the class work to take
home and complete, nor will it posted on the web site. To maintain the integrity of tests/quizzes
and Class Work it is necessary that you take them with me at a
place that I can supervise you.
Ø All tests are cumulative and you
will be expected to know material from previous units.
Late
to Class:
You
should not becoming late to class as it disrupts class . Coming late is not acceptable . I
start class immediately after the second bell. I suggest you already
have your materials and do not stop off at your locker.
Expectations:
My
expectations are as follows:
-
Be
on time for class, in dress code and with no gum, no food or
drinks
-
No cell
phones, iphones or other electronic devices are to be turned on.
-
Have
required Materials
-
Absolutely NO passes
will be given during class (unless it’s an emergency)! These
types of interruptions are very annoying and affect the class in a
negative way.
-
You will have read , studied
and taken notes from the current section we are working on..
-
You are NOT to get up during
class unless you have permission or if it is an emergency. If you need to get a tissue or
sharpen your pencil, please do so before class.
-
Have
assigned work completed and your questions ready. (both study and
written)
-
I
should never get the question "What did I miss" as I
expect you to consult the class Web site and know exactly what you
missed and to have all notes/materials in hand:
http://home.twcny.rr.com/smamathosf
-
Notify
me when you know are missing class and fill out a class absence
form so we can formulate a plan for making up work when you
return. Failure to do this means everything is due the day
you return or you will receive zero's.. It is your responsibility
to make these arrangements. If you are taken out of class for an
extended period of time, the choice was made not to have you
present when the material was taught. Do not expect to be
taught the material. I will gladly help you if you need it
but the choice has been made.
-
Show
respect
-
Sit
in your designated seat and stay in it until the bell for
change of classes rings
-
Take
notes and be attentive to what is being taught, "Math is not a
spectator sport" raise your hand if
you have a question.
My
Availability:
Preferably
you set up a time to meet with me by e-mail or before homeroom. DO
NOT try to schedule a time with me as you are walking
into class as there is no time to do so before class. You deserve my
attention and it can not be given in the chaotic interval between
classes. It is your
responsibility to get to school before homeroom so you can
see your teachers or to contact them via e-mail..It is important for me to be able to see what
room is available for us to meet. Do not take it for granted that
the room (s) I teach in will be available for us to meet in.
·
I am always
available after school from 2:40 until 3:30 except on Wednesday's Make
arrangements, before school, to meet with me any of theses times
because once the day starts often times other things have been
planned. Feel free to just stop in and work on assignments
