A second opportunity to either demonstrate your Rope skills or continue to learn Knots, Lashings and Pioneering. This time two projects Monkey Bridge and Bosuns Chair.
Sportsmen’s Days is a festival held annually at Carpenter’s Brook Fish Hatchery featuring a wide variety of outdoor activities. Many of the displays are “hands-on” and give participants an opportunity to try casting for fish, BB Gun shooting, firing a crossbow, fly tying, hatchet throwing, turkey calling, canoeing, trout fishing, archery, orienteering and more.
Troop
152 is invited by the Organizers each year to erect our Monkey Bridge and Bosun’s Chair for participants (particularly smaller children) to experience and enjoy. As a reward they provide us with several meals and troop members get to participate in all the various activities.
Camp-out Information
- We will be staying in tents located adjacent to our pioneering area. Running water and bathrooms are located nearby.
- Since we are volunteers at the festival the sponsors
provide some meals for the troop free. Lunch (both Sat. and Sun.) and Dinner on
Saturday (chicken barbecue) will be provided. We need only plan food for two
Breakfasts (Sat. and Sun.).
- Uniform requirements for the weekend.
- While building or manning the pioneering project Troop 152 T Shirts. If you don't have a T shirt Class A uniform shirt
- When not manning the pioneering projects, Class A uniform Shirt.
- Neckerchief should be brought for wearing at morning colors and pledge
- We will meet at I.C. on Friday (Sept. 21) at 4:30pm for the trip to the hatchery. The schedule and arrangements for Sunday
(Sept. 23) will be announced later. You will be driven home by one of the adult
leaders.
- The fish hatchery telephone numbers are 689-7970
or 689-9367. These numbers can be used in an emergency but not for routine
calls.
- Each scout and adult who attends will be
assigned a time when he or she will help staff our program area. When not on
duty troop members are free to wander (with a buddy) through the festival and
try their hand at the various activities.
- Spending money is not mandatory but you may want
to have a few dollars ($) in case you decide to purchase something at the snack
bar. Also, although most of the activities are free, occasionally in the past
there has been a modest fee associated with doing some of them.
- Always remember that since you will be wearing a
scout shirt how you behave and the way you are perceived by the people at the
event reflects both on Troop 152 and Boy Scouting. You should always be mindful
of this and do your part to leave everyone with a good impression.
- Since we will be working with and pulling on
ropes it is recommended that you bring a pair of work gloves.
- Traditionally, on Saturday evening, all the
scout troops camping at the Hatchery gather for a campfire. We share skits and
songs and generally have a good time.
- There may be some time during the weekend for
cards or board games. So come prepared. Please, no electronic games.
